Fauna X Gizmo

The weird and very interesting story of how these items were made, in the woods outside of Gothenburg.

I have been playing around with tie-dye for some time so when Gizmo asked if I wanted to tie-dye some of their apparel it was a no-brainer!

Me and my partner just moved out to the woods outside of Gothenburg and I wasn’t really aware of how tricky it would be to tie dye out there. I am also terrible at planning. The fact is we have no access to water or even a washing machine in our tiny home at this point. Gladly our neighbours let us use their laundry machine so I could still do it.

When I had tied up all the apparel with rubber bands I started out with the white t-shirts. I used some black textile paint that I blended out with hot tap water in a kebab sauce bottle. I put the t-shirts in a plastic bag and started to sprinkle the paint on the t-shirts. So far so good. Waited about twenty minutes and decided it was time to put the t-shirts in the machine. I moved the bag towards the machine and that’s when shit started to happen.. the bag was leaking onto my neighbour's old linoleum floor. Also, I didn’t have any gloves which is mandatory. Since I have been doing this a lot I am aware that there will always be paint where you don’t want it to be but this was the worst place!! I panicked over the situation but had to put the shirts in the machine first so I stressed with pulling off the rubberbands of the t-shirts and for some reason the paint splashed into my eye… it was the first time this happened to me and FUCK, I can tell you that it burns like hell !! I had to spend 40 minutes washing my eye with water, and forgot about the black paint that was still on the linoleum floor.. did I tell you I suck at planning? I am even worse at dealing with situations like this haha...

The most important part was that the Gizmo tee’s were in the laundry machine. After about 40 minutes I pulled them out, they turned out nice and I put them up for drying. I managed to scrub the paint off the linoleum floor, most of it anyway, and so far my neighbours haven’t noticed it (crossing my fingers).

Next up was bleaching the black Gizmo hoodie and crew neck. The bleach smells a lot so I decided to do it outdoors. It was late in the evening and since I’m kind of a city hippie I haven’t really adapted to the darkness of the woods yet, this means that I will not spend more time out in the dark than I have to. I imagine that I looked pretty ridiculous running in and out with my headlamp on to check the bleach every 10 minutes or so.

Anyway, the process of bleaching the Gizmo hoodies and crewneck went smoothly and they turned out as expected! All garments are dyed by hand and may vary in colour and shade.
