Isak Shorty, or Isak Kvamme (24) delved into rap at the age of 15, but it wasn’t until 2017 that he made his debut as a rapper. Since then, he has captured the attention of music fans across the country established himself as a name to watch.
Hi there! How are you doing these days?
Very well! Thanks for asking!
How has the beginning of the year been for you?
Busy, I'm studying writing and composition, working on music, and trying to enjoy the days to the fullest. I've just moved in and become roommates with my girlfriend Mille. We both hate moving, but it'll be great once we get everything properly organized here!
How do you feel about leaving the old year behind, and what are you bringing from last year into this year?
As mentioned in an Instagram post at the end of last year... 2023 didn't quite turn out the way I had hoped artistically. I experienced a long creative block and released little music, but I accepted it, and now I'm back on track :) thankfully.
For an unfamiliar listener, how would you describe yourself as an artist and the music you create?
For an unknown listener, I guess the best thing is just to take a listen; I don't like to put it into words.
Can you share a bit about your journey into music, how did it all start?
I started rapping Slim Shady in secret when I was 15-16... then I managed to fail my moped license test, so we went and bought studio equipment instead. A consolation prize. Then I participated in UKM with my own song, and made it through. Released a bunch of tracks, and then I was challenged to participate in “Musikkprisen” in Ålesund, did it, and won. Played at Øya, Jugendfest, and Trondheim Calling when I was 18, and since then, I've just been pushing on. It's really fun to look back on it like that; it went very fast in the beginning.

Where, what, or who do you draw inspiration from for your songs?
You have to live to have something to write about. I also listen to a ton of music with lyrics in focus, damn, I love lyrics.
Do you have any rituals or specific craving when you’re making music?
No, not that I can think of... I need enough sleep, and I get damn hangry if I don't eat, which doesn't work well in the studio. Coffee, of course, we need coffee.
What is your ultimate dreamcollab?
If I say it, it never happens.
What do you do when you’re not making music?
Haha, I guess I do normal things, I think. Eat good food, exercise, and hang out a lot. I consider myself a social person, so there's always something going on. In addition, I study writing at Westerdals, which is very exciting! It's also cool to have met so many like-minded text nerds.
What’s the best thing you’ve experienced in your music career so far, and do you have any dreams or goals for the future?
It's absolutely crazy that I can say today that I make a living from music.
What can we expect from Isak Shorty in 2024, do you have any cool plans for the future that you'd like to share with us?
We'll see what becomes of it all; I'm working on music and feeling better than before. I'm a bit curious myself about what the music year 2024 will be like.
